| Name | A Sorcerer in Qalia: Level 1 to 7 Guide |
| Category | Class |
Before you start your adventure, you must first know how powerful your enemies are before you engage them. It's always good to know how you measure up to these creatures. It very well avoids early death in the game. To determine how strong your enemy is, Vanguard has the "Dots of Death". It gives an assessment on whether you will be able to survive an encounter with a particular creature. These dots are shown at the top of the radial display on the top right corner of your screen. If you click on "tab" you'd be able to examine your nearest target. Clicking the tab key many times would change the target. You'd know which creature you are targeting when a yellow or red lights up around the target. You won't miss it.
The Dots of Death would tell you how strong the creature is. Also on the display is the level of the creature. Both should provide you with enough information whether to engage these creatures or not.
One Dot: Can engage and defeat the creature (solo).
Two Dots: Can be safely engaged solo, but might have a hard time defeating multiple creatures at a time.
Three Dots: Can be soloed but you would need preparation and strategy.
Four Dots: Engage the creature only if you are in a group.
Five Dots: Engage the creature only if you are in a strong and well-organized group.
Six Dots: Engage only if you are high level and belong to a very strong and proficient group.
At early levels, you'd find that Three Dots creatures can be soloed without much difficulty if you know how to use your powers. If you're still figuring out things, better join a group before engaging these creatures.
To engage enemies, click on the tab key and start auto-attack if you are in close proximity. Note that aggressive enemies have names in red, while passive ones are in yellow. Aggressive enemies need no provocation at all. If you run close to it, it will attack without a warning. So, if you are in an area with multiple aggressive enemies, don't attack hastily as it may attract the others, resulting in your quick death. The Auto Attack functions as your most basic form of engaging the enemy. But you have to remember that you should be within striking distance to do this. If you are a spellcaster, you can range attack it using your basic spells, even without auto-attack.
Attacking is the way to deal damage to enemies, but you also need to defend yourself from attacks. Your defense would depend on the armor you wear as well as your Parry and Dodge skills. Your passive defenses (Armor, Parry, Dodge) are always active when you are being attacked. The only thing you can control is the Armor. If you have enough money, better buy the best armor you can get.
With all that information, you'd be able get started. Say, you want to start your adventure in the continent of Qalia as a Sorcerer. Then head on south of Thelon.
Some players choose Qalia because of its Arabian desert setting. It's definitely a different world from those that we've come to know in most MMOs.
This guide will help you to reach level 1 up to level 7 in a matter of hours. Of course, the better you are in killing enemies, the faster you can level up. One important thing to remember is that from levels 1 to 6, you wouldn't be given a penalty when you die. You'd be resurrected at the nearest outpost with your belongings. Starting level 7, you'd be resurrected at altars and you have to retrieve your belongings for an additional penalty.
If you're ready to start your adventure, you'd be transported to the Cliffs of Ghelgad. You'd find some creepy crawly creatures called Leafsaw Crawlers. They are level 1 enemies and have 2 dots. You might want to test your powers and fighting abilities by defeating a couple of these creatures. This would serve as practice for your first mission. As a Sorcerer, you can make use of your basic spell called Taqmir's Bolts I. This is a series of bolts that deal 41 to 46 damage. It also generates feedback which restores 4 to 8 over 6 seconds. You expend 36 energy per cast. You can also protect yourself by using Force Barrier I. It creates a barrier around you for 60 minutes. It increases your armor class (AC) by 23 and reduces incoming damage by 4%. If an enemy hits the barrier, there is a 10% chance of being stunned for 3 seconds.
After familiarizing yourself with your offensive and defensive powers, you can speak to Parisa Nirumand to begin your first quest.
QUEST 1
For your very first quest, Parisa would ask you to loot 8 Dull Scarab Pincer. This item would drop if you kill several Leafsaw Crawlers you meet. Not every Leafsaw Crawler would drop it, so you'd have to kill more than 8 to get the required number of items.
The majority of the Leafsaw Crawler population can be found if you head east. The crawlers are not aggressive and can easily be killed. After you loot 8 Dull Scarab Pincers, return to Parisa to get your rewards.
You'd be given 5 coppers and a choice of three clothing items:
1. Soft Felt Sash (soulbound)
AC 4, Item Level 6, Equipment Expertise 6%
Camel's wool felt that provides a protective layer in this sash.
Required class: Bard, Cleric, Druid, Blood Mage, Necromancer, Psionicist, Monk, Ranger, Rogue, Shaman, Sorcerer, Disciple
2. Viper Skin Sash (soulbound)
AC 7, Item Level 6, Equipment Expertise 6%
The leather f this sash originates from the vipers of the Cliffs of Ghelgad.
Required class: Bard, Paladin, Cleric, Monk, Ranger, Dread Knight, Rogue, Shaman, Disciple, Warrior
3. Crawler Segment Belt (soulbound)
AC 14, Item Level 6, Equipment Expertise 6%
Required class: Paladin, Cleric, Dread Knight, Warrior
After you get your rewards, speak to Alimir Surhami who would then give you another quest which is much easier than the first one.
QUEST 2
Alimir will tell you that scorpions have infested Karibasa and herbalist Djau Hashqo does not have antidote to cure everyone of the poison. You are then asked to pick up leaves of the Desert Calico plant and bring them to Djau Hashqo.
The leaves of Desert Calico Plant can be found scattered around the area where the Leafsaw Crawlers are. You can interact with the plants when you see the exclamation point (!). Left-clicking on it would pick up the leaves. Once you get the required number, head to Djau Hashqo who is in a tent down the path of the Village of Karibasa. He'd then give you your rewards.
You'd be given 5 coppers and you get to pick one of these three gloves:
1) Crawler Segment Gloves
AC 14, Item Level 6, Equipment Expertise 6%
Required Class: Paladin, Cleric, Dread Knight, Warrior
2) Viper Skin Gloves
AC 7, Item Level 6, Equipment Expertise 6%
Required Class: Bard, Paladin, Cleric, Monk, Ranger, Dread Knight, Rogue, Shaman, Disciple, Warrior
3) Soft Felt Gloves
AC 4, Item Level 6, Equipment Expertise 6%
Required Class: Bard, Cleric, Blood Mage, Necromancer, Psionicist, Monk, Ranger, Rogue
At this point, you would have reached Level 2 and just nearing Level 3. Djau would then send you to your next quest.
QUEST 3
Djau would tell you that scorpions are usually found only on the hilltop of Ghelgad, but they soon amass in the valley and swarm up the slope to Karibasa. You would be asked to kill 6 Hill Scorpions and 5 Greater Hill Scorpions.
Hill Scorpions are level 2 and have 2 Dots, which is just right for your level. After killing 6 of them, you might want to kill some more to get more XP until you reach Level 3. This is because the Greater Hill Scorpion are much stronger and are level 3 and have 2 Dots. Once you reach Level 3, you can proceed to kill the 6 Greater Hill Scorpion.
Head back to Djau to get your rewards. You'd be given 10 coppers and you can choose one of the three items:
1. Crawler Segment Bracers
AC 11, Item Level 6, Equipment Expertise 6%
Required Class: Paladin, Cleric, Dread Knight, Warrior
2. Viper Skin Cuffs
AC 5, Item Level 6, Equipment Expertise 6%
Required Class: Bard, Paladin, Cleric, Monk, Ranger, Dread Knight, Rogue, Shaman, Disciple, Warrior
3. Soft Felt Cuffs
AC 3, Item Level 6, Equipment Expertise 6%
Required Class: Bard, Cleric, Druid, Blood Mage, Necromancer, Psionicist, Monk, Ranger, Rogue, Shaman, Sorcerer, Disciple
Djau would like to send you to another quest but he's uncomfortable sending you until you've learned some new abilities. This means you'd have to go to Telqo Ashken, a Spellcaster Instructor. He'll give you a list of spells you can train for, the level requirements, and the fee. Check your Inventory (B) to see how much money you have. From the rewards, you'd probably have just enough for a spell. You can choose Frostbite I. This creates a chilling burst that inflicts 37 to 42 damage to an enemy and reduces movement by 70% for 8 seconds. It's just the thing you need when you battle the next set of opponents.
QUEST 4
Djau would be pleased with your new ability and would be confident to give you your next quest which would take you to the Hilltop of Ghelgad. This used to be home to scorpions. You'd have to seek out the reason for the Scorpions' dispersal by searching for 10 Kasavi Earrings, 8 Training Prods, and 6 Discarded Leash.
Head back to where the Hill Scorpions are and continue to head east. Don't go northwest because you'd find some level 4 Ksaravi Vultures. When you see several Ksaravi Rascals, you know you are in the right place. They are just around the Hilltop of Ghelgad, there's no need to go to the Hilltop just yet. Their names are in red, hence they are aggressive enemies. They are Level 3 and have 2 Dots. The same as the Greater Hill Scorpion, but these Rascals are stronger and they attack without provocation. Make sure you don't go near striking distance of 2 or 3 Rascals because they will simultaneously attack you. One way to make sure you are safe from other Rascals while you attack one is to be within safe distance and start ranging it with a spell (Frostbite I first). Since the Rascal is slowed down by the first spell, you can then use Taqmir's Bolts and your Wood staff to finish off the enemy. These Rascals will drop either a Ksaravi Earring or a Training Prod, sometimes both. When you get the required number, you can then look for the Discarded Leash.
Don't make the mistake of heading to the Hilltop because you won't find the Discarded Leash there. You'd also be in much more trouble with new set of enemies waiting. What you have to do is to just explore the area around the Hilltop and you'd find some mounds of soil. Interact with then and you'd find the Discarded leash. Head back to Djau for your rewards.
You'll be given 15 coppers and you can choose one of the three items below:
1. Crawler Segment Reinforcement
AC 14, Item Level 6, Equipment Expertise 5%
Required Class: Paladin, Cleric, Dread Knight, Warrior
2. Soft Felt Reinforcement
AC6, Item Level 6, Equipment Expertise 5%
Required Class: Bard, Cleric, Blood Mage, Necromancer, Psionicist, Monk, Ranger, Rogue, Shaman, Sorcerer, Disciple
3. Viper Skin Reinforcement
AC 7, Item Level 6, Equipment Expertise 5%
Required Class: Bard, Paladin, Cleric, Monk, Ranger, Dread Knight, Rogue, Shaman, Disciple, Warrior
QUEST 5
Djau will again send you to another quest which would entail killing 11 Ksaravi Scorpiontamers and 11 Trained Scorpions. You'd have to fight one set of Scorpiontamer and Trained Scorpion together.
The aggressive Scorpiontamer is Level 4 and has two Dots, while the Trained Scorpion is Level 3 with two Dots. Ranging the scorpion first with Frostbite will render it briefly stunned. Switch to attacking the Scorpion Tamer with Taqmir's Bolts and when it's near you, hit with Frostbite I. You can then hit the Scorpion with another set of Taqmir's Bolts and Frostbite. Once you kill 11 of each, head back to Djau to get your rewards.
You'd be given 20 cp and you can choose one of the three items:
1. Crawler Segment Boots
AC 14, Item Level 6, Equipment Expertise 4%
Required Class: Paladin, Cleric, Dread Knight, Warrior.
2. Viper Skin Boots
AC 7, Item Level 6, Equipment Expertise 4%
Required Class: Bard, Paladin, Cleric, Monk, Ranger, Dread Knight, Rogue, Shaman, Disciple, Warrior
3. Soft Felt Shoes
AC 4, Item Level 6, Equipment Expertise 4%
Required Class: Bard, Cleric, Druid, Blood Mage, Necromancer, Psionicist, Monk, Ranger, Rogue, Shaman, Sorcerer, Disciple
At this point, you would have reached Level 4 or even Level 5, if you spend time killing more Ksaravi creatures. On top of that, you'd have enough money to get a new spell. Head back to Telqo Ashken and train. Get Shocking Grasp I . This shocks the opponent for 97 to 106 Damage at short range. it generates feedback restoring 4 to 8 energy for 6 seconds. The spell expends 10 Energy and 40 Endurance.
You might also want to visit Nimat Sekamqu, a weapon vendor. you can sell some of your loots so you'd have more money for spells training. If you do have extra money, you can get the Color Spray I spell. This gives a blast of color that mesmerizes opponents in a 10m cone for 4 seconds. It uses 23 Energy.
You'll be ready for your next quest.
QUEST 6 & 7
A few feet away from Djau is Deli Jahanpur. She'll ask you to catch 6 Puny Scorpions and bring them back to her. Djau thinks that Ksaravi sneaks around town and puts scorpions near the houses.
The quest is far easier than what Djau gave. You don't have to go far because the Puny Scorpions are just scattered around the Karibasa Village. You don't even have to travel down the path to where the Hill Scorpions are.
Once you give the collection to Deli, she'll give you 15 cp. The second part of the quest is quite interesting for its simplicity. All you have to do is to go to the Hilltop of Ghelgad and release the Angry Scorpions. Check your Inventory and you'd find a box full of Angry Scorpions. Just remember that even if it's quite easy, the trip to the Hilltop isn't a walk in the park. It would entail fighting off aggressive Ksaravis and Scorpiontamers. But the good thing is killing them would give you more XP and you'll be well on your way to Level 6.
After freeing the Angry Puny Scorpions on the Hilltop of Ghelgad, make your way back to the Gelhad Valley where the Giant Hill Scorpions are. It's not required, but you might want to kill several of them to add to your XP.
When you're tired of fighting them off, go back to Deli Jahanpur and tell her of the great news. You'll gain an adventuring experience for a job well done.
QUEST 8
If you need to buy or sell some items, head back to Nimat Sekamqu. If you're not interested in any of his items, then help him recover his chest and basket, which were stolen. The culprit would have to be the Ksaravi. Head back to the Hilltop of Ghelgad and fight the Ksaravi Scorpiontamer and Trained Scorpions and you'd find both the chest and the basket drop. Make sure to range attack using your spells. Should you use a spell with area of effect, make sure it doesn't hit other nearby enemies, otherwise, you'd find yourself struggling to kill them off. Being attacked by 2 sets of Scorpion Tamer/Trained Scorpion isn't really the end of it all. With some luck, you can still defeat them, but without enough endurance and hit points, it looks gloomy.
Now, there is an easier way to do this. If you are already level 5 by the time you do this quest, you can kill more creatures until you hit level 6. Once you are Level 6, you can get two more spells that you can use to kill the Ksaravi with just one hit. No kidding! It makes killing the Scorpiontamers/Trained Scorpions very easy. All you have to do is wait for the Basket and the Chest to appear then you can head back to Nimat Sekamqu.
The two spells for Level 6 that are quite awesome in killing the Ksaravi creatures are:
Char 1
Flames engulf your opponent that deal 128 to 138 damage and burn for an additional 78 to 86 damage over 4 seconds.
(Note: It's quite interesting that it deals as much as 499 damage with just one hit. We don't know if this is intended or a bug or something else. So, make the most out of it until they nerf it).
Taqmir's Bolts II
A series of bolts that deal 148 to 159 damage to an opponent. It generates feedback restoring 4 to 8 energy over 6 seconds.
(Note: Again, based on experience, it deals as much as 200 damage to opponent.)
After completing the quest, talk to Nimat to get your rewards. You'd be given 20 cp and you get to choose any of the following items:
1. Shellhilt Mace
4-7 Damage. Required Class: Paladin, Cleric, Druid, Blood Mage, Ranger, Dread Knight, Rogue, Shaman, Warrior
2. Shellhilt Dagger
4-5 Damage. Attacks have a 5% greater chance of scoring critical hit. Required class: Bard, Druid, Blood Mage, Necromancer, Psionicist, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer.
3. Shellhilt Shortsword
3-6 Damage. Attacks have a 5% greater chance of scoring critical hit. Required Class: bard, Paladin, Ranger, Dread Knight, Rogue, Warrior
4. Shellhilt Greatmaul
6-11 Damage. Critical hits gain double weapon damage. Required Class: Paladin, Cleric, Dread Knight, Warrior
5. Shellhilt Greatspear
4-13 Damage. Critical hits gain double weapon damage. Required Class: Dread Knight, Shaman, Warrior
With your new spells and new weapon, you can easily hit level 7 without doing quests. Just have fun killing one Ksaravi after another without using up much energy and endurance.
Once you hit level 7, your adventure will be more exciting and quests would be more challenging. Add to that the fact that you'd be receiving penalty when you die. And you have to retrieve your belongings from your tombstone/altar when you die.
